African Blue Basil

The rare African Blue Basil is a perennial that grows well in sun or shade and once established does not need a lot of water. It will grow into a medium or large bush in the ground but also grows very well in a container. Take cuttings from the top to create a full, bushy plant since it is a sterile hybrid and will not grow from seed. It is frost sensitive so should be protected from hard frosts.

Beautiful purple flowers can cover the plant almost all year around and blooms are very good at attracting bees and other pollinators. Flowers are also edible and are great in salad dressing and in ice cream.

Its scent is complex and wonderful with a strong undertone of camphor. It is used regularly in cooking, green drinks and salads.
